Save KVEC

As a longtime resident of Keokuk, I’ve seen how important the Keokuk Volunteer Emergency Corps (KVEC) has been to our community. However, it’s become increasingly clear that the current leadership is failing to uphold the standards we’ve come to expect. The recent decision to delete the KVEC Facebook page, instead of addressing the legitimate concerns raised by the community, only underscores the need for transparency and change. It’s time for us to come together and demand accountability from those in charge. Our safety and the integrity of our emergency services depend on it.

I’ve seen these types of issues before. If we don’t act now, it’s only going to get worse.

Born and raised in Keokuk, and this isn’t the KVEC I grew up with. Change needs to happen, and it needs to happen now.

Why are we not getting straight answers? The more they try to hide, the more it looks like they have something to hide.

I’m beyond frustrated with what’s happening at KVEC. For years, I’ve supported this organization financially because I believed in the work they were doing for our community. But now, I feel like I’ve been deceived. How could things have gotten so bad under Dan Tillman and his wife, Angie? Their leadership, if you can even call it that, has been nothing short of disastrous.
I've watched this organization deteriorate under their watch, and it's been heartbreaking.

The lack of transparency, the poor decision-making, and the blatant disregard for the community’s trust have pushed me to the edge. And then to see them delete the Facebook page—where people were rightfully voicing their concerns—was the last straw for me. That’s not leadership; that’s cowardice. For years, I opened my wallet to support KVEC because I believed in its mission and trusted that my money was going to good use. But now, I can't in good conscience continue to donate when it’s clear that the current leadership is running this organization into the ground. It’s not just about the money—it’s about principle. I won’t be donating another dime until Dan Tillman and his wife Angie are removed from their positions.

This isn't just about mismanagement—it's about the integrity of an organization that once stood for something. I urge others who feel the same way to speak up. We deserve better, and so do the volunteers who are still out there trying to do their jobs despite the mess the Tillmans have created. It’s time for a change, and it’s time for it now.

I can't believe what I'm seeing with KVEC these days. This organization used to stand for something, used to be a pillar of our community. But now? Now it's just a mess, and it's all thanks to the people running it. I've had enough of this nonsense, and I know I'm not the only one.
The leadership has failed us time and time again. They don't listen to the volunteers, they ignore the community, and they think they can just sweep everything under the rug by deleting their Facebook page? That's a coward's move, plain and simple. It shows they're more interested in saving face than actually addressing the problems.
I'm furious that my donations over the years have gone to support this kind of incompetence. And let me be clear: I won't be giving another cent until the people responsible for this mess are gone. The Tillmans need to go, and they need to go now. We deserve better than this, and I'm not going to sit by quietly while they run this once-great organization into the ground.

I am absolutely furious with the state of the Keokuk Volunteer Emergency Corps (KVEC). How did things get this bad? How did an organization that was once the pride of Keokuk turn into this corrupt, mismanaged disaster? The lack of transparency, the blatant disregard for the concerns of the very people they’re supposed to serve, and the complete incompetence at the top—it’s all too much to bear. And then, as if things weren’t bad enough, they go and delete the KVEC Facebook page? What kind of leadership thinks it’s okay to silence the voices of the community instead of addressing their concerns head-on?

I am done with KVEC. Done with being lied to, done with being taken for a fool, and done with supporting an organization that clearly doesn’t have its priorities straight. It’s not just about the money anymore—though believe me, not another cent of mine will ever go to KVEC under the current leadership—it’s about principle. It’s about integrity. It’s about not standing by while an organization that used to stand for something important gets dragged through the mud by a couple of people who have no business being in charge.

Dan Tillman and Angie Tillman need to go. They’ve had their chance, and they’ve failed spectacularly. It’s time for new leadership—real leadership—before there’s nothing left of KVEC worth saving. Until that happens, KVEC will not see another dime from me, and I strongly encourage anyone else who cares about the future of this community to do the same. We deserve better. The volunteers deserve better. And the people of Keokuk deserve better. Enough is enough!

I’m just at a loss for words. I never thought I’d see the day when KVEC would be in such a mess.

I’ve known Dan for years, and honestly, I’m not surprised by any of this. He’s always been like this.

I’m really concerned about how long these problems have been festering. How could this have been allowed to go on for so long without intervention?

OMG!! I used to live here before I moved to Florida. How did it get so bad?! Why did they put that Dan and his wife in charge? We need answers NOW!!

I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m the reason they deleted the KVEC Facebook page. I kept asking them for answers, trying to get some transparency, but they would just leave me on read every time. It’s like they were trying to ignore the problem and hope it would go away. Well, guess what? Ignoring the community isn’t going to solve anything! If they can’t handle a few tough questions, maybe they shouldn’t be in charge in the first place.

I’ve volunteered with KVEC for years, and I’ve never seen it this bad. Morale is at an all-time low, and it’s all because of poor leadership. Something has to change, or we’re going to lose what little trust the community has left.

Dan and Angie are not the easiest people to get along with. Dan is incredibly stubborn—he’s never wrong, even when he obviously is. Angie isn’t any different. They do things their own way, and the moment you disagree with them, you’re instantly labeled as their enemy. They just can’t handle the truth. I’ve also been wondering how they managed to get the money to open their tax business on Main Street after Dan was fired from Midwest Performance. It all seems a bit suspicious to me.

I was blocked from commenting on the page for voicing my concerns.

So any of you actually know the facts?
Doesn't everything go thru the city? How would it be possible to do all the things you say happened?
Do any of you really know Dan or Angie?

I used to be a member. When I was on the Emergency Corps, Dan and Angie had control of all the money that came in. I was the head of maintenance after the last one quit because maintaining the equipment was forbidden once Dan was in charge. In the labor day parade, the airboat trailer still had the same flat tire that it had when I left a few years ago so the money most definitely isn't going towards the equipment.

And as far as a flat tire, I talked with them while they were waiting to go. They just got it back from maintenance. They have another tire at the shop. Flat tires happen. You say you are in charge of maintenance. What did you actually do? Boats like theirs don't require a lot. Mostly the annual oil change

Funny you ask if I can prove it. Can you actually prove anything you are saying against these people? If it is a city program, it would go through the city channels. That would be extremely hard to steal from without having a lot of people complicent, but you aren't obviously smart enough to know that. You just blow your hole and spout off whatever makes you feel good. What a waste. If you were even a little educated, you would know all of this, but instead, you just appear extremely ignorant.

As stated, the spam detection system this site is running automatically hides comments that it has detected spam in. It’s been tweaked to look for harassment too.

The difference between that and the KVEC Facebook page is that legitimate concerns from citizens were being deleted by KVEC’s management.

That’s not what is being done here.
